Unbelievable! In it's relentless quest to squeeze the last drops of oil from our planet, regardless of the consequences, the dangerous and irresponsible fracking industry has persuaded the Bureau of Land Management to auction off oil and gas leases just miles away from some of the most gorgeous and delicate geology on Earth: Arches National Park and Canyonlands, near the "mountain biking capital of the world," Moab, Utah.
In addition to the known environmental damage done by this extraction method, recent studies suggest that fracking may lead to increased earthquake activity, which would be absolutely devastating to these national treasures:
Delicate Arch, the iconic symbol of amazing natural beauty on the Utah license plates:
Landscape Arch, nearly the length of a football field, it incredibly narrows down to a mere six feet in thickness:
... and about 2000 other arches in the park.

(10,779 posts)(Shameless self-kick to get more signatures, but this is important to me: Arches is my favorite national park, and this is just shamefully irresponsible handling of the public trust, to hand more profits to an industry that is bloated with profits already.)
