(10,052 posts)It is quite likely that mail in voting will be the end of the republican party over the next 6 years and the end of their majority this year. The false statement is saying it is from fraud and abuse. It will be a paper trail which prevents the repubs from so much cheating and from Russia and China from breaking into voting machines and may actually mute the need for Ivanka's voting machines from China.

(10,052 posts)and this has been investigated. Perhaps by some of the state election offices but not by voters. I think they found something like 152 cases in the last 10 years.

(32,626 posts)I said by the State Elections Offices, and any other players...Russia, China, Software, etc. Fraudulent elections have been with us for a long time now, but it has never had anything to do with voters. And abuse? Waiting in line for 8+ hours to cast a vote counts as abuse to me...as is any of the ways used to suppress the vote .

(6,874 posts)especially not Republican ones.
But mail voting is one of the best defenses the people have against that kind of fraud because there is a paper trail.
My state, Colorado, also has a website set up where one can follow up one's mailed ballot and track it through (has not been received" through "has been received and is being validated by your county" to "has been received and validated by your county and will be counted."
I'm sure if there was a problem (such as you forgot to sign the privacy envelope - it happens) you'd learn that faster if you were check the site also.
We weren't the first to use all mail balloting, but we have gotten top marks on election secutiry with it for the last few years at least.

they won't 'police' what people post?
In other words, they don't care.

(7,403 posts)Since his rant about having two of his Tweets tagged for accuracy. The ball is in your court Twitter. What are you going to do about it. Doing nothing is not an option as that would tarnish your brand forever. Do you have a doghouse you could put him in for a couple of weeks and unless he promises to abide by the rules delete his toxic account.

(5,397 posts)There's just too many of them.
What we have here, is a fake president using fake actors to post fake information on Twitter.
The net value of Twitter is therefore zero. As a source of reliable news, worse than zero. As a source of propaganda, it's great though.
To the Twitter and Facebook back room guys: Are you in favor of your 'social media' outlet being neither true 'media' and definitely not 'social'?
If so, please shut your doors permanently. Last to leave the building, please turn off the lights.

(2,738 posts)Actually, I am encouraged by the Texas Supreme Court decision yesterday. Instead of banning any expansion of the disability label for applying for a ballot by mail, they were surprisingly nuanced.
This 100 percent Republican court did indeed say voters could not claim that their fear of getting coronavirus was a valid reason to apply for a mail-in ballot.
BUT they left room for anyone with any of the diseases that the CDC lists as increasing the risk of having a fatal or life-threatening outcome to decide for themselves that they have a condition that would make going to the polls injurious to their health. The CDC lists conditions such as asthma, diabetes, an immuno-compromised condition, heart-disease, high blood pressure, and obesity.
The League of Women Voters of Texas is encouraging those who may have one of those conditions to apply for a mail-in ballot. There is no need to list a particular disability and it is inadvisable.
The League is also working with elections offices to explore ways for them to come up with and train enough poll workers to open all polling locations. This election, which could have an unusually high turnout, may have many of its retirees who normally serve refusing to do so because they are at higher risk.
