I'm in south Minneapolis but west of I-35W, a couple of miles from the demonstrations and fires. But I'm very familiar with the location where George Lloyd was killed and where the demonstration is occurring now, and I'm sad and horrified. The MPD has been a racist cesspool for as long as I can remember, even though the city has always been pretty politically liberal and despite the efforts of generations of mayors and police chiefs. I don't know what the answer is. It might be police training; it might be that law enforcement tends to attract a certain number of authoritarian assholes. Obviously MPD isn't the only shitty police department so it's not unique to this city.

I think it's the training...and also a culture of authoritarianism for sure (tends to attract supremacists no doubt)

All but one of her friends are reporting in. They say it's gotten very bad on University Avenue.

I live about two miles from the 3rd precinct building where Wednesday night’s “event” took place.
It was uncharacteristically quiet in my immediate area.

Out in my yard this afternoon I could hear the music and speeches from 38th and Chicago and the helicopters over the precinct.

The neighborhood is wary pissed scared angry. There is clear understanding that there are two things going on, Protests and a crime wave. I don't know if there is a gas station intact between 46th and Lake Street.

be safe... I am holding for a better night tonight. But yeah, not looking good

I grew up in Oakland and gunfire was not uncommon most nights. some closer than others...
it still made me worry about the ones in the line of fire

I don't know that it is going to end any time soon. They need to bring these cops into custody NOW!

Liquor store nearby was broken into and looted tonight a half hour after the owner closed it up. I can smell the smoke from the fires in Minneapolis through my bedroom window. Occasionally a car races past down Grand Avenue, honking its horn, but that's about all that's going on here at the moment.
