Columbus police have blocked North High Street at Broad Street downtown to stop the protests from marching further."

snip--" It is unknown if there have been any injuries or arrests made.

Stay with 10TV as we follow this developing story."

I'm seeing photos of teargas being used on Reddit, r/Columbus

Protests over death of George Floyd in Minneapolis spread to Columbus
By Jim Woods
Posted May 28, 2020 at 9:14 PM

snip--"More than 300 protesters were marching around the Ohio Statehouse in downtown Columbus Thursday night, blocking the intersection of Broad and High streets to call attention to the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody.

Alternately chanting "No Justice No Peace" and "Black Lives Matter," the protesters were expressing outrage over the death Monday of Floyd, a 46-year-old black man who pleaded for air while a white Minneapolis police officer kneeled on his neck for some seven minutes as other officers put him in custody.

snip--
"A Columbus police helicopter hovered overhead at Broad and High streets as what started as a march around the Statehouse about 8 p.m. became a gathering in the street."

Police on the ground have given periodic warnings to the protesters that they had to disperse from the intersection and roadway or face arrest. A few plastic bottles were tossed at police, who stepped up warnings about dispersal about 9:40 p.m. and were preparing to deploy pepper gas.

A second, smaller protest was reported shortly before 8 p.m. at Livingston and Lockbourne avenues on the South Side."

be more evenhanded. Alt-right protesters with guns can go anywhere they want to unchallenged, even to threaten officials, but POC protesters have streets blocked off and if they venture past barricades, get arrested.

I've lived here a long time, it is more often a big restless college age crowd over OSU sports that makes the news. This city has been blase about CPD brutality & POC interaction for years. There are lots of social problems here that don't get much discussion, let alone action.

I saw online organizing for another demonstration downtown, by the statehouse, this is not a typical action here.
This summer is going to be a hot mess
