(3,660 posts)Police precincts are just small satellite buildings where a smaller number of cops report to work. They usually have minimum staffing and equipment inside. The County jail, a much more fortified building is where people would be jailed. This building that is on fire was largely abandoned by the cops hours ago.

(115,719 posts)whether it has holding cells. I assume when they evacuated the building they took computers and records with them, to the extent possible.

(115,719 posts)I don't think the whole rather large building is on fire; there's probably a sprinkler system and I'm sure people will be evacuated.

(70,239 posts)gas went off so they backed off. They did not want to go in. Maybe that is why it was only the front we initially saw???

(70,239 posts)Rioters successfully opened one of the doors to the third precinct's building, but police had one surprise for them: they set off a ton of tear gas inside. The rioters quickly exited the building.
