Just heard from my Daughter in Minneapolis

Last edited Fri May 29, 2020, 06:17 PM - Edit history (3)

They live just a few blocks from the scenes we are seeing live on CNN. They have lost electrical power. She says that there is smoke everywhere. She and son in law have a 6 month old baby. They are frightened and thinking of departing the city for safer ground.

Update: 5 PM CDT, May 29

My daughter's family has retreated to a friend's house further away. Pretty complicated in the age of social distancing. Everything is OK and it appears they have their power restored as of about right now. We'll now see how tonight goes... fingers crossed!

My daughter is also in Minneapolis. I am praying for safety for all of them, fwiw.

My kids are safe so far. It's so scary. And so tragic.

12. One thing Detroit learned from 1967 is that the damage is permanent.

I remember in 1992 with the Rodney King riots, Detroiters protested but we had very little of any violence.

I hope your daughter and her family are able to get to safety during the day before things get bad again tonight.

Take a few valuables, take some clothes and get in the car and drive. Lock the place up, maybe even barricade the windows and doors before leaving.

When those buildings go up in flames, they might not have time to get out.

we ended up in some neighborhoods that were hit by the '68 riots, it looked like a war zone, something I will never forget. They used the National Guard to help bring order back to the area. Hopefully they will have better control of the situation, better planning for tonight to keep the violent agitators under control. Peaceful protests are fine but there is never an excuse for violence or destruction of property but in the times of tRump and state sponsored racism its hard to say what is right or wrong when fighting fascism.

But thousands will be impacted for so long.

Best of luck to them.
