Minnesota governor says he expects there will be "swift" justice for officers involved

CNN Live Updates

Gov. Tim Walz said he has an expectation that "swift" justice will be carried against the police officers involved in the death of George Floyd.

"It is my expectation that justice for the officers involved in this will be swift, that it will come in a timely manner, that it will be fair. That is what we've asked for. I have been in contact with Hennepin County attorney, and I am confident that those very things I just said will happen," Walz said.

All four officers involved in the death of George Floyd have invoked their Fifth Amendment right against self incrimination, Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman told CNN following a news conference Thursday afternoon.

Freeman said he looking at the Freddie Gray case for guidance in the Floyd case and wants to have the full picture of the case before moving forward.

"So, Minnesotans, your pain is real. The chapter that's been written this week is one of our darkest chapters," Walz said.

Freeman's notion that the Freddie Gray case is a blueprint for a successful prosecution of these officers is ludicrous, but I'm glad the governor is so confident justice will be served.

3. I'm worried too. Especially if he's following the Freddie Gray case.

It's like saying, "For guidance in dealing with the next epidemic, I'm looking at the Trump admin response to Covid-19."

Next up, "I'm hiring the first prosecutor of the Arbery case as a consultant here!"

He is trying to fail? I'm not for rioting, but that makes me want to take to the streets.

6. Swift? They would have been arrested immediately if there was "swift" action.

And none of this would have happened.

for them not to have been arrested the murderers yet. The video alone is probable cause for any number of charges. They should be off of the street. This situation is the government's fault for not acting correctly and expediently. All of this spin about getting an airtight case first is straight up lies. If you or I did anything remotely considered probable cause of a crime, we would be arrested first and the case gotten together after. This is straight up bullshit!

There will be another night of unrest. The question is will they be prepared tonight?

They're talking now like they were successful of quelling the violence last night. It was clear they weren't prepared and they didn't succeed. The community was devastated. They didn't protect the community.
