and where on the neck it was being exerted. They will call expert witnesses to answer questions about exactly what physical processes caused Floyd's heart attack.

This is a specific condition in which there is such extreme compression of the chest blood flows backwards, so the brain is flooded with de-oxygenated blood.

Wouldn't the combination of compression on both chest and neck make it difficult to breathe?

Preventing air from getting into the lungs
Preventing blood from getting to the head
Stimulating the vagus nerve causing blood pressure or other cardiac problems

I'm sure there are others as well.

Sounds like the vagus nerve might be the culprit in this case, though I hope there's a more complete examination.

and possibly severing it or damaging. C2 is the vertebrae associated with respiratory function so any and all nerve systems are rooted in the cervical spine so any serious pressure is bound to do some kind of serious damage.

Chauvin is being represented by the same guy that got Philando Castile’s killer cop acquitted.

strangulation and asphyxiation, and didn't find a broken hyoid bone or other telltales signs. But it doesn't rule out that he died due to the actions of the officer. The force was on the back of his neck, not the front, which I believe explains the lack of those findings.

The complaint doesn't say he didn't die of suffocation.

Yes, maybe he had preexisting medical issues, and yes, you can determine if there was a heart attack (examination of cardiac muscle for infarction) but to rule out asphyxiation seems a bridge too far.

"Traumatic asphyxia" does not mean the same thing as "asphyxia".
