Watching Forbidden Planet for the first time since Anne Francis & Leslie Nielsen past away

Marta and I met Ms. Frances in 2002 at a Twilight Zone Convention:

http://www.steveandmarta.com/graveyards/tzcon2002.htm

Anne Francis was very gracious. I had a TZ shot for her to sign, and asked her about her appearance in "Search." She didn't remember "Search" at all. I went through the actor's on the show and the premise, but she couldn't remember anything about it. My husband mentioned that he's had a huge crush on her when "Honey West" was on (I imagine half of the men in America who are between 45 and 60 could say the same!), and asked if he could give her a hug. She said sure, and he leaned over the table. She had expected him to come around the back and went "Whooaa!!" He apologized, and went around the back of the table, and she said the last person to do that had been Robert Blake, who leapt over a table at her. So now I'm teasing my husband that he lunged at Anne Francis.

She was wonderful. I wish we had met Leslie too. We did meet Warren Stevens at that same convention.

Warren Stevens has also been in everything, and we had a shot of him in his Combat! episode, "The Gun," to sign. He liked the shot, and told us some interesting stories of working with veteran stuntman and photographer Earl Parker, who had taken the behind the scenes shot. We also bought a photo of his from "Forbidden Planet," and I had him autograph to me a screenshot from his Outer Limits episode, "Keeper of the Purple Twilight." I had a complete stranger stop and ask if I had any more of that shot, which shows him with the Keeper, because they wanted to buy it.

Forbidden Planet. Avatar might get some airtime, but it will not hold up to this classic.

But I want someone to make Ringworld, the movie..

This is a pretty fair start for an amateur.

Read everything he put out. In particular I loved the collaborations with Jerry Pournelle.

Niven's universe is interesting and Colebatch is a perceptive and moving author..

"Telepath's Dance" and "The Corporal in the Caves" are both spectacularly good..

Greg Bear and SM Stirling also wrote a story set in Known Space, "The Man Who Would Be Kzin" that's very good.

I was 14 when I saw it (in a theatre on a big screen of course). I took my little brother who was 4. He woke up screaming in the middle of the night. I asked him what was wrong and he answered "big red dog." If you know the movie you know what he was having a nightmare about.

Nielsen was terrific in drama and comedy.

Francis was incredibly gorgeous and talented.

Great fun...thanks! I watch those old TV shows streaming while I work after hours in my office...the dialog is so good that you don't have to focus on the screen - it's like theater or radio in many ways. Combat! was a terrific show in its day....I also rmember the show The Gallant Men, which I believe was on during the same era.

thanks again...

We had a blast at both cons.

Frank Merwald (we stayed with Frank for both visits mentioned at the links) has a new show called "Work it" We had breakfast with Frank last Sunday. He was in town for the holidays.
