by Joan McCarter
While the Romney/Ryan team is doing its best to keep the real Paul Ryan under wraps, the Democrats are recognizing what a potent weapon he is. He's starring in a number of new ads by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, like this one:
<...>
The ads are designed to capitalize on Ryans newfound prominence in the 2012 campaign. With the public growing increasingly aware of Ryan and his plan after his time on the campaign trail, Democrats strategists tasked with finding a path back to the House majority say they are seizing an opportunity to attach Republican candidates to a budget plan that many voters dont like. <...>
Democrats say to expect plenty more ads featuring Ryan in blue states like New York, California and Illinois, where the party is waging vigorous efforts to unseat Republicans. Theyll also target Ryan in blue-collar areas like West Virginia, where the House Majority PAC ad is in flight.
So both parties recognize that the Ryan budget is potentially disastrous for the whole Republican ticket. For Republicans, that means shoving the plan under the rug. For Democrats, it means putting it front and center.

(104 posts)Ryan pretty much destroyed any chance he ever had at becoming potus one day by becoming Mitt Romney's running mate. He USED TO be taken very seriously, a rising star. That's no longer the case.

Follow up with Ayn Rand quotes about eliminating all government except
Military, police and the courts.
Then tell voters voting GOP is voting to eliminate Social Security, Education, Health Care, Roads and Bridges.

(1,453 posts)does anyone have a good sense as to why he went for it in the first place?
I was getting the impression that no one wanted to be associated with
the Mittster.
Is he *taking one for the team?* Is this a way to get a leg up in 2016?
Does he know that Mitt is basically radioactive, or is he stupid about it? (doubt the latter).
Curious George, here, just trying to understand this nonsense called POLITICS.

(129,242 posts)You notice that he is continually using his own talking points out on the road, even if they are in direct conflict with Rmoney. But as an opportunist, he is along for the ride to tout his own horn. In addition, I expect they considered -
-The HUGE fund-raising advantage
-Thinking that the results from his home state failing to torpedo Walker meant an electoral shift
-The ALEC agenda nationwide with voter suppression laws that were becoming difficult to overturn
-The state of the economy
-The fact that since no one else in the GOP had ANY plan AT ALL and he did, he could talk about it
-The fact that he could appeal to the teabagger and Ayn Rand base (although he's forced to go lunatic)
-The visibility factor and "learning the ropes" for the future
The *reality* is that he is a narcissistic pathological liar and his running mate is an arrogant psychopath and in their quest to appeal to the base, they lose the indies, and if they moderate, they lose the base. I expect they figured the indies would come their way regardless because of the economy alone, but as a combo, they are an EPIC FAIL and the indies are seeing that.
