Dvorkovich: Romney's victory in U.S. election may lead to bigger arms spending

Russia is seriously concerned about the anti-Russian comment of Republican Party candidate Mitt Romney, which may have a series of undesirable consequences, among them an arms race restart, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich said at the Russian Future session of the Ninth Annual Yalta Meeting on Saturday.

"If Romney wins, we may have to enlarge the defense budget," he said.

Investments in the arms race would be counterproductive against the complex economic backdrop, Dvorkovich said.

Anybody who pays attention to Russia/US policy and understands basic physics should understand that anti-ballistic missiles are unworkable. Not only do they not work very well, but even if they did work they would be extremely destabilizing.

If one wants a new nuclear arms race, the best way to insure that it will come to pass is to declare Russia an enemy and put ABMs in eastern Europe.

The best and cheapest defense against ABMs is to overwhelm it with numerous simultaneous launches. When you shoot down a relatively cheap nuclear missile with a very expensive ABM system, the solution is obvious.

And even Obama at least partially supports ABM policies which have been in place since Reagan first discussed it and gave birth to "Star Wars" defense.

Not a workable solution by any standard.

Plus, an ABM interception is like tryin to hit a bullet with a smaller bullet while wearing a blindfold riding a horse.

build these arms? The Chinese.

I thought we couldn't spend money we don't have.

Oh, well, if it's a Republican, and it's for the military industrial complex, then all logic and reason need not apply.
