"Im tired of the lies and the name calling and the vilification of the people who do the work every day to make a difference in the children of Chicagos lives.
Im tired of billionaires telling us what to do, as if they love our children more than we do.
I want them to turn off the air conditioning at 125 South Clark and work like we work.
I want them to turn off the air conditioning on the 5th floor of city hall and let them work like we work.
I want them to turn off the air conditioning at the Gates Foundation and the Broad Foundation and the Walton Foundation so they can see what our children have to suffer under.
I want them to come sit in a classroom with peeling plaster and notebooks and I want them to be evaluated.
I want them to understand what it means to be homeless, what it means to be sick, what it means to be uncomfortable while you give me a test."

(36,437 posts)There's Rahm, listening to Nickelback, on the floor reaching vainly for his mouthpiece.

(23,272 posts)but I've been so moved by Karen Lewis and her profound position on educating the kids, I had to go.
What terrific solidarity.

(23,272 posts)I said in another post that I was in Chicago today and had some free time. I had planned to hit a museum or hang by the lake front and just happened to see coverage of the rally participants gathering in Union Park.
So I simply hopped a cab and took off to join them!
The march from Union Park to Garfield Park was actually LEAD by a CPS high school band!!! There were many parents and children there. The teachers were wearing red so you could easily see who was a teacher and who was a supporter. I missed Karen Lewis' speech but the emotion was palpable.
I didn't get any pics since I wasn't planning on being there.
Solidarity!

(8,084 posts)Imagine, if they got the maintence staff in all those building to cut the AC off. then lock the maintence boxes and just pretend to fix it for like days and days.
I have seen banks close early because the AC was broken and it was too hot for their workers.
They could shut down the establish if they take their AC away!

(17,090 posts)So unless you're suggesting cutting off Rahm's AC, I don't think it would have any effect. Teachers are used to sweating it out.
