Unpersuaded by more than 100,000 pandemic deaths in the United States, 45% of strong conservatives, four in 10 Republicans and nearly as many evangelical Christians say theyd be unlikely to get vaccinated against the coronavirus, even for free.
Overall, 27% of adults in an ABC News/Washington Post poll say they definitely (15%) or probably (12%) would not get the vaccine. Among them, half say they dont trust vaccines in general, while nearly a quarter dont think its needed in this case.
A plurality definitely would get vaccinated (43%) and 28% say they probably would. The net, 71%, is much higher than the adult vaccination rate for the standard seasonal flu 45% in the 2018-19 flu season, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (with a wide range by state, from 34 to 56%.) Its much lower than the 2017 child vaccination rates for polio and measles/mumps/rubella, 93 and 92%, respectively.
A mix of groups express less interest in getting vaccinated 46% of Republican women, 45% (as noted) very conservative Americans, 40% of Republicans and 37% of evangelical Christians.

(16,829 posts)So if you have a lot of asymptomatic carriers walking around, some vaccinated people will catch the virus from them.

(10,749 posts)I will get a vaccine when it is available. But, would Iget a vaccine created at the behest of this administration and recommended by it?
Absolutely not.
Would I get a vaccine created by responsible, non-American pharmaceutical companies and endorsed by responsible countries that are not the US?
Absolutely.
Yes, I know Big Pharma is multi-national, but any vaccine driven mostly by US-based drug companies in conjunction with the DCD and directives from this administration and approved by the US FDA? Nope. I'll wait.

(54,013 posts)... I can never get 100% approval to any statement that begins with "I can't imagine Trump could fuck this up..."
I've learned not to underestimate him.

(16,829 posts)But the people who work on these things respect the process. If someone is injured by a pharmaceutical, the pharmaceutical company is the one held liable. So its not in their interest to rush something as important as a vaccine.

(11,468 posts)Going to get it but will hold back a few months to see side effects. I know more than one place doing it so I want the right one which may not be the fastest one.

(54,013 posts)When the Covid first broke out she was reposting the Dr Drew naysaying about the dangers of the novel coronavirus. Most people who've had their CT theories clearly disproven by objective, deadly facts on the ground are still clinging to their conspiracy worldviews.
Sometimes I wish I could put of the lot of them on a big boat and let them float off the edge of the world.

(58,785 posts)badly warps the responses. It's not at all the same as actually refusing when available. Far more would, of course.
And that's before even considering factors such as family pressure and being required for work or school attendance.

(23,102 posts)I will definitely get a vaccine, but if it's one drupmfs' invested in, I'll wait 60 days because I won't trust it. See what happens to others first so I'm not part of zombie apocalypse or end times death wave. I hate to be like this, but I really really don't trust him and anything he touches withers and dies. If there's no major issues, after 60 days, I will get it ASAP.
If the vaccine has nothing at all to do with drumpf, if he invested no money in it and isn't involved in any way, I'd get it within 30 days.
I really can't wait, but OTOH don't want to die either. I want to visit NZ so bad, our friends keep calling and tellilng us to come there, but it's just not safe flying for 24 hours and going thru 3 airports at least to get there until we have been vaccinated.
