1. Daines is a classic back bencher! Montana deserves a statesman.

3. Steve Bullock should prove to be a great candidate. He won his gubernatorial election....

....in Montana with over 80% of the vote. He was my favorite dark horse in the presidential primaries. I watched one of his town halls and was so impressed that I sent his campaign a donation ten minutes later.

4. I expect he'll whine mostly about Bullock running for prez.

As "proof" he doesn't care about Montana.

Bullock will wipe the floor with him.

5. definitely the underdog move -- but Bullock is popular and trump is fading hard in Montana

so it's not a big surprise to see Daines look desperate. Bullock consistently and increasingly outperforms the democratic presidential candidate in his races (going back to 2012), while Daines's support is reliant entirely on party/presidential candidate support and his incumbency.

6. Bullock has a decent lead in polls I've seen

he's a popular Democratic governor in MT, which is a red state otherwise.
