PBS Newshour Judy Woodrift interviews Bishop Mariann Budde who leads the Episopal Dioscece of Washington, DC.

St John's church across from the White House has been known as the church of the presidents for over 200 years. It was partially burned on Sunday night, May 31, and then yesterday night, June 1 was the site of the photo opportunity by the president.

Bishop Budde and church leadership have derided the use of the relgious site for that purpose and for the way federal officers violently confronted protestors as the president headed to the church.

In Washington DC, tonight, Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington has just denounced Donald Trump’s use of St. John's church as a prop, while military police used munitions against peaceful protesters nearby.

“I am outraged. I just want the world to know that we, following Jesus and His way of love, do not, we distance ourselves from the incendiary language of this president.” The Episcopal Bishop said on CNN just now, commenting on Trump’s display outside St. John’s. The bishop then called the president’s photo op “an abuse of a sacred space.”
