Probably the only thing Barack Obama & I have in common is that we both had the honor of firing Jim Mattis, the worlds most overrated General. I asked for his letter of resignation, & felt great about it. His nickname was Chaos, which I didnt like, & changed to Mad Dog.......His primary strength was not military, but rather personal public relations. I gave him a new life, things to do, and battles to win, but he seldom brought home the bacon. I didnt like his leadership style or much else about him, and many others agree. Glad he is gone!

(11,744 posts)Mattis, like him or not, served his country honorably for decades. Trump only serves himself with no honor whatsoever.
He is useless and worthless.

(115,829 posts)First, Obama did not fire Mattis. Leon Panetta and Mattis, who was the head of Central Command at the time, did not agree on aspects of the administration's Iran policy, but Mattis was not fired. He retired from the Marines in 2012. And he acquired the "Mad Dog" nickname as long ago as 2004, although Trump has claimed credit for it. https://www.militarytimes.com/news/pentagon-congress/2019/03/03/trump-claims-he-coined-the-nickname-mad-dog-mattis/

Trump is a joke in comparison - a joke that will not be found particularly funny.
