In the talks of race and racism, all black commentators on this side of the pond have explained in full how we are worse than the US. In the US it is overt as fuck, racists in America feel no shame in demonstrating what wankers they are, meanwhile here in the UK, as they whitesplain Empire, the denial is deep that we are a racist country. From the PM down there is systemic denial of a systemic problem that goes back a 1000 years. The howls of faux outrage that a slaver of historically horrific proportions statue is felled as part of the BLM protests over here is a tribute to how much certain sections of our society want to worship Empire while they systematically attempt to silence and oppress those who have been disproportionately affected by Empire and its fall out.
The only thing right now that I can see the UK doing better at than the US is that the police have been policing by consent at protests, rather than by force. But after our rabid right-wing Home Secretary did a fine fascist performance in the House of Parliament today about the thugs protesting (dog whistle anyone?) that will change from tomorrow. Expect riot gear and bollocks nasty forthwith.

Willie Lynch letter: The Making of a Slave
This speech was said to have been delivered by Willie Lynch on the bank of the James River in the colony of Virginia in 1712. Lynch was a British slave owner in the West Indies. He was invited to the colony of Virginia in 1712 to teach his methods to slave owners there.

(9,685 posts)We hear how we outlawed the slave trade not how we perpetrated it and ingrained it and how it stained our national character. We should read it though, however nauseous it makes you feel, because that is a document that explains so much about both our countries in the 21st Century.
Nazi be Nazi before Nazi had a name and divide and control has always been Nazi. The horror of these people.
