Slaveholders and white supremacists. You may think it's impossible but nobody thought statues would be coming down wholesale. It may be a decades long l struggle, but the discussio should start now. Confederates should of course be the first priority but others should not be immune, including so called founders.

(15,325 posts)1. The names of two towns in Texas that always make me cringe
White Settlement & Gun Barrel City
Both names are a bit cringy.
Never having been to either of these fine cities, both named years long ago, in the past, I don't speak of the population, only the city name as it is printed on a map.
Just adding a bit to your post on this subject.
I believe every State has some city named for a controversial moment in history. And some States far more than others.

(9,117 posts)2. I've heard claims that White Settlement wasn't named
For its Euro-American residents, but for a family surnamed White, which may be the case.

(3,813 posts)4. From wikipedia
The city got its name because it was the lone settlement of white pioneers amid several Native American villages in the Fort Worth area in the Texas Republic territory in the 1840s.[5][6] On October 14, 2005, city leaders, citing hurdles in attracting businesses,[7] announced a plan to have local voters decide on a possible name change for the town from White Settlement to West Settlement. In the November 8 election, the name change was overwhelmingly rejected by a vote of 2,388 to 219.[6][8]
So they had their chance and rejected it. I expect this will be a common reaction. It may take federal or state coercion in the form of withdrawal of funds, etc. Or even regulatory mandates
