(5,933 posts)It's often said, "Vote your heart in the Primary, and vote your head in the General." Maybe that's all Sanders and AOC are doing with their endorsement. I have to think that, come January, Bernie would much rather be working in a senate from which Mitch McConnell is absent than a senate in which McConnell is the Majority Leader.

(54,379 posts)The worst part for me is that I am in no way convinced that Sanders would much rather be working in a Senate with McConnell gone. He gets his biggest headlines as an opposition figure. As a grudging member of the majority, there is always the danger that much of the attention currently focused on him will then be focused elsewhere. Obviously that is a cynical way of looking at the situation, but I haven't yet seen much justification to abandon it.
Republicans are expert at exploiting half truths and weaknesses, both perceived and real. In a bitterly fought Democratic primary, McTurtle's campaign will record every video of Democrats criticizing McGrath, and run them saying, "see? even Kentucky Democrats don't want Amy McGrath! Why should the rest of Kentucky want her?"

(58,785 posts)our government, and now we're seriously close to losing our sovereignty to an authoritarian kleptocracy McConnell has been transferring much of our nation's wealth and power to.
Further, whatever Sanders' and Ocasio's goals are, like them everyone here as long lists of wants from our next administration and congress. If the Republicans retain control of the senate, we won't be able to make them happen, and that may be far from the worst consequence.
