Ladies and Gentlemen, allow me to introduce to you former Army Ranger, Paratrooper, instructor at West Point and all around total asshole, Dave Grossman. He would probably prefer he was referred to as "Lt. Col Grossman", but fuck this fucking monumental asshole sideways.

Mr. Grossman has taken it on himself to be the leading producer of seminars devoted to teaching cops how to kill people.

I'm not making this up. He has a company called "Killology"

Excuse my language here, but this motherfucker conducts seminars in which he teaches police persons that they are the "Sheepdogs" protecting us "Sheep" from the "Wolves" (bad people who mean to harm us).

He is basically a fucking sadistic douchenozzle whose dopey ideas have found their way into the mindset of MANY police departments in this country.

Watch this video and tell me he isn't a fucking nutcase;

His philosophy of policing, and others with similar viewpoints, of how police should view themselves and conduct their interactions with the public, are a LARGE part of the problem with policing in this country.

I had heard of this guy years ago, but this thread and this article put up yesterday by DU'er "WhiskeyGrinder" reminded me of him.

People like this need to be stopped. He should not have any position in the instruction and influence of domestic law enforcement.

2. The idea of a metropolitan police force is not "hundreds of years" old

What we have in this country, and for that matter, in civilian police departments around the world is a relatively new institution, a new phenomenon, stretching back only a century and a half at most.

Modern policing is not some centuries old institution. But the idea that civilian police must be "Warrors" or "Sheepdogs" needed to protect society from the "Wolves" however, IS new.

And this asshole is one is its chief proponents.

I remember talk of this type of training being offered to police departments soon after 9/11 and city councils listening to scared constituents fell right into the trap.

There probably was an element of this around prior to 9/11 that was based on fighting the drug war but I believe it really exploded post-9/11. It's a perfect cause for right-wingers to get votes and for their funders to make tons of money off the public.

tRump for example wanted voters to fear the protesters, so he put up fencing around the White House to pretend there was some huge fearsome force attacking him and that he was being 'strong' against hordes of evildoers.

I've thought for many years that police departments around the country are recruiting and training people who fit the "schoolyard bully" profile.

Anybody who isn't already a bully, once they wear a police uniform, will be trained to become one. Our cities are paying people like this to train their police personnel to be just like him.
