Democrat introduces bill to prevent presidents from nuking hurricanes

A House Democrat has introduced a bill that would ban presidents or other federal officials from using nuclear bombs in an attempt to alter weather patterns.

Rep. Sylvia Garcia (D-Texas) told The Washington Post in an interview published Tuesday that her bill was in response to a report last August that President Trump had inquired about using such weapons against hurricanes. Trump later denied the report.

The Climate Change and Hurricane Correlation and Strategy Act, which Garcia introduced June 1, would bar the president or other federal officials from using either a nuclear bomb or any other "strategic weapon" for "altering weather patterns or addressing climate change."

What Trump hath wrought.

On the other hand, I would think Rep. Garcia might have more important things to do. In spite of Trump, no one is going to nuke a hurricane!

By the way, Rep. Garcia, your bill would have to pass the House, then the Senate (how many bills is McConnell sitting on?) and then signed by Trump (who will never limit his own powers). Do you really think this issue is worth the work and political capital it would take?

I hope she isn't grandstanding.

Repubs have tied our hands with any and all serious bills anyway, so until we destroy them, a little ribbing is in order.

or proclaiming a specific EO is working. A bill against hurricane nukes? Is that like a Congressional subpoena?
