1964--LBJ pushes through passage of Voting Rights Act--he said dems would lose the south for at least a generation after that
In 1960 election JFK sent a letter to MLK's wife while King was in Birmingham jail, Nixon did not. King's dad and many other blacks (who could vote) voted for the Democrat for the 1st time in their lives

(82,849 posts)Is Mitch McConnell embarrassed the KKK are now members of the Republican Party?
Or is there some Gentlemen's Agreement not to ask Republicans about this? Yeah, 50 or 80 or 100 years ago, Democrats had much to answer for. But since there's no changing history, only current behavior, why aren't Republicans asked about the situation as it now stands?

(90 posts)And to think, several Dems didn't want her to be Speaker again. I can't imagine anyone else being in that position right now. At every turn, she has been all over the Occupant calling out his bullshit.
She will go down in history for being one of the best. Already, in just a year and a half, I forgotten that Paul Ryan was Speaker. LOL!

(5,608 posts)That would be the organization that enthusiastically supported Trump's candidacy, and put him on the front page of their hate rag in August of 2016,
The Trump campaign responded with:
"Mr. Trump and the campaign denounces hate in any form," the campaign said in a statement Tuesday evening. "This publication is repulsive and their views do not represent the tens of millions of Americans who are uniting behind our campaign."
The Trumpsters did not, to my knowledge, find a way to include "nudge, nudge, wink, wink" in their reponse.

(905 posts)Gotta love her wit! What are we at now on the clever quips scoreboard?
Nancy: Over 10,000 quips served and landed where it hurts!
Don the Con: 0 (Zero)
(But not for a lack of trying because, hey, he's killin' it with a record-breaking number of flops!)
