A little upset with Queer Eye new season because all the black

people in the make over episodes live in filthy, disgusting homes with no care for personal hygiene or home surroundings.

Why are they pushing this negative racial theme?

Black and white, alike.

I just watched the new season, and I can't recall them disproportionately showing black families as slovenly while whites are put-together.

It's a pretty woke show, and I think they'd be careful with such a presentation, so this seems like grasping at straws, in my extremely humble opinion.

2. Interesting. I see it differently.

Although I admit I may be missing something, I disagree with your assessment. The purpose of the show is to help people who have lost their way over time. The cast is diverse, the people they help out are diverse, they do not judge the character of any of the people they help, the people they help (at least on screen) are almost universally grateful for their help. They tend to focus holistically on each person. I see no stereotyping. Sure, some of the folks they help have let their homes, relationships, fitness and , self-esteem and morale deteriorate over time, but that is the purpose of the show. They always (from what I have seen) attempt to lift and support each person up to be the best self they can be. All races seem to be treated equally.

I have no doubt more sensitivity can always be given, but it seems to me that all of these "hosts" have strong character and care about making the world a better, more inclusive place.

I am open to different interpretations. Best to you.

I may hold a record for longest lurker. DU has been an oasis for many years. At one time I was active in political discussion, but I have needed a break for a couple of years to focus on school and myself. I feel I am more prepared to engage in a positive and constructive manner these days and hope to contribute more in the future. Hope to see you around. Peace.

3. I recently watched my first episode of Queer Eye while in a dentist chair

it featured a young African American gal who ran a dog grooming business out of an RV.....I didn't find it filthy or disgusting, just saying

6. I just watched the 1/2 of the new season too

I have to say I didn’t come away with the impression that they portrayed black people living in squalor. The one big guy with the dreads lived in what looked like a typical Bachelor pad to me. They are always gross. The mobile dog groomer lady was so awesome!! IMHO queer eye candidates all come from equal squalor regardless of skin color.

Though people are of varied ethnicities the idea is that they’re stuck or floundering and the Fab 5 help, respectfully and creatively.

That transcends ethnicities.

10. I love the show and have watched

All the episodes over the years. For some reason this new season made me wonder why the white families they chose lived in pretty normal circumstances where as the blacks were portrayed somewhat differently. The dog groomer lady worked in a dirty falling apart RV with an electric cord running down the middle of the street plugged into her mother’s house, and her own home was empty of even a stick of furniture and not because it was due to cleanliness. And the kid with the dreds did not live in any typical bachelor pad I’ve ever seen... that apartment was gagging filthy.

I haven’t watched the rest of the episodes, but this first half of the season left me feeling uncomfortable about the depiction of the black families compared to the others, to my memory white and Mexican families.
