(42,770 posts)no national leader to pull it together. Trump was smart to decentralize it all. It diffuses everything and makes it even more difficult to focus blame.
But here we are, playing by the rules, going with science, staying home. But the others are out spreading and it's like we'll have to stay at home forever.

(15,139 posts)But we are retired and our kids are grown and gone. No grand children yet.
We joke about my writing things like "wash hair" and "vacuum" on my calendar just so the pages aren't completely empty!
And our (also retired) next door neighbor walks over (BYO) for coffee on Sunday mornings on our back deck.
I go to the grocery store now and again, and I have visited the horse rescue barn where I volunteer a few times lately. Masked, of course.
I do not want to get sick and I do not want to infect anyone else. This is a rolling tsunami of cases and we do not have even the slightest handle on controlling it.

They tell me they are being cautious as well. Our son has been here. He brought us a rescue cat. I wonder if I will ever see my girls again.

(44,577 posts)Fortunately, we didn't hesitate to get the ball rolling on mass testing (without Dr. Trump's permission), and are succeeding at getting the enough of the asymptomatic and the infected off the streets and into proper quarantining:

(307 posts)I think Kate Gaellga (Mayor of Phoenix) will be running about Ducey next time. She is being very vocal about the lack of a consistent message on masks and openings from the Gov's office. She will clean his clock.

How do you do that successfully?
Police blockades on every road at the borders?

(6,939 posts)There are checkpoints along I-10 at the Alabama/Florida line and I-95 at the Florida/Georgia line but they are not roadblocks.
How about ALL the other roads? How about infected people told to quarantine but decide not to (mostly Russiapublicans) because they couldn't care less and think they're invincible, or those who aren't able to?
Lock him up.

(21,566 posts)the PA border that we get some of them coming here. Cuomo has given all public places permission to deny access and service to anyone without a mask.
Got a text from a RW cousin from SC. He is driving to PA for his wife's family reunion. So, plenty of exposure opportunities on the road and at the family gathering. Then, while up north, he wants to visit me after the reunion where nobody will wear masks. (Rural RW folks)
I told him that my apartment building management requires masks and has limits on visitors (true but not enforced). I offered to meet him at a local park. I am not letting germs inside my place. At least outdoors is a bit safer. But he is a stubborn type who would skip the visit rather than accept limits so I do not expect to see him. In fact, he has not responded to that text.
The last time I saw him was 2 years ago at his father's house in AZ. His father is a solid Dem, and there were squabbles over political issues during that visit, with me on his father's side.
So I think this setting of limits will cause a break in my relationship with the cousin. He knows my physical vulnerability but refuses to believe that precautions are necessary.

Interesting that the press hasn't asked that question of the government yet.
Are they getting tested? How many of them have been infected ?
