Not who you like, not who's a good politician. Just sheer intelligence? A true intellectual.
I have got to vote for Lori , Lightfoot, Mayor of Chicago.
But interested in what others here think.

And our female politicians are pretty darn smart.

(3,424 posts)In no particular order:
Elizabeth Warren
Samantha Power
Susan Rice
Sally Yates
Hillary Clinton
Madeline Albright
Stacey Abrahms
Letitia James
Kamala Harris
Katie Porter
Val Demmings
Muriel Bowser
Gretchen Whitmer
Any of these women would be great presidents! (Though Albright and Power are constitutionally disqualified)

(42,770 posts)defines it differently. To me it's assimilating facts easily but then taking that set of facts and taking it to the next level - analyzing, proposing, and acting on solutions.
Here's an example. Everyone knows tRussia interfered with 2016 election. Everyone knows trump and McConnell blocking any fixing of that situation. Mueller was adamant that it be our focus to prevent it. To me, it's easy just to say McConnell won't let us. But a sign of exceptional intelligence to me would be where someone figured out how to make it happen despite the obstacles.

(2,406 posts)I don't agree with some roads down which her intellect has taken her -- no model or set of assumptions is absolutely correct nor should be followed blindly without tempering by human experience -- but there's no denying that Warren is brilliant.
I backed Biden in the primary -- and still think he would be a better president -- but there's no denying she was smarter than anyone else in that race. (Except maybe Buttigieg, hard to tell what's real with hiim. In any case, his background was so meager that he never proved himself.)
The thing is: being a good president or vice-president isn't really about intellect. Or, rather, intellect forms only a small part of the result. Politics isn't pure mathematics or theoretical physics. Intellect only gets you so far in that field. And so, I think this really isn't a good question. Intellect isn't what is crucial in politics. Most successful people in politics are reasonably smart but they're not brilliant, and that's not what makes them successful.

(42,770 posts)Intellect. Lori Lightfoot stood out in a panel I watched, while others just repeated rote responses.
Some are gifted at management, not intellectualism. Some the reverse. Rare to find someone who has enough of both. Rare to find someone who can come up with brilliant policy and have the awareness/ability to take the idea to fruition, navigating all the political headwinds.
You mention Warren... brilliant...yet not aware that saying all big corporations and banks are bad, alienates millions who work there or are dependent upon them. Or, that there are millions of voters who feel more comfortable with incremental change toward a big goal Same with Hillary Clinton. Once again a brilliant achiever. Yet not aware enough to realize people were yearning for an unabashed liberal voice.
I actually think, that ignoring the obvious personal issues, Bill Clinton is the best example I can think of as the perfect mix.

(31,170 posts)brilliant women who are incredibly smart. I think that we made it though the past year and a half because Nancy Pelosi is brilliant and has the strength to take on the evil that GOP Congress has been shoveling out.
