General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsAs of today there are 117,770 deaths in the USA. Is this making America Great again?
And yet... his base still doesn't get it. They go out and mix with others, not wearing masks, simply because they think its nothing to worry about, or they figure if they die they die...flippant.
think about this...
117,770 deaths in the USA. That is more than two football stadiums...
and Trump doesn't care. All his fan base... many of them seniors or overweight, with diabetes... etc. All of them will die if they get
the virus. THAN WILL GO HOME AND SPREAD it to their community killing more. Its nuts to go out now.. without some kind of protection, ... hand sanitizer...masks.. social distancing... but you know... people would rather die than stay home and live I guess.

(111,267 posts)Coroners were instructed to list people who had obviously died of starvation as having died from heart failure.
Yeah, the heart failed. That's what happens when you allow people to starve instead of forcing the rich to share.
Numbers from 1918 are hard to come by in much of the world because they just didn't have the luxury of keeping that kind of record. There is no excuse here except the overinflated vanity of one monster.

This virus is likely to be the leading cause of death for the next year or two. Step aside cancer and heart disease.
My wife is a front line health care worker. I have some risk factors. This virus could really mess me up.
My wife comes home from work, throws all her stuff in our plastic biohazard bin and heads for the shower.
We are only visiting our octogenarian parents online. They are at higher risk than I am.
I'm missing going to the movies, eating out, travelling... but I know this isn't a hoax or just another flu.
Hell, I've been hospitalized for the flu and I never ever ever want to do anything like that again.

(41,831 posts)in November of last year I went into the Hospital and didn't come out till a week before New Years. I had gone in because i had problems with my heart, and kidneys... it was horrible. and it made me realize how close to death I had come...I don't ever want to go out that way.

(11,087 posts)They have a very large margin of error there because they won't really know the numbers until after the pandemic ends. We know the numbers more precisely for measles, smallpox, diphtheria, or flu because we've gone through the process with those more than once.
Anyway, they estimate that herd immunity won't start to tamp down the spread of coronavirus until at least 29% of the population acquires immunity. There are only two ways to acquire immunity, catch the disease or get a vaccination. We don't have a vaccine, so that leaves catching it.
Less than 1% of the American population has had the disease so far. So . . . 28% to go! That's about 90 million Americans.
Let that sink in and try not to despair.
Or maybe we need 74%.

(41,831 posts)And the Republicans don't care if the bodies stack up. Not one bit. Mitch McConnell doesn't give a shit, nor does the Republican Senate, they are fine with it... ya know, scale down the USA's population a bit.. mostly people of color and lots of dead elderly who won't need that pesky Social Security .

(41,831 posts)gaaaaaaaaaaaah... grinds my gears.
When I started getting interested in history (back in the Neolithic), I was appalled by the atrocities committed by the French revolutionaries. Dug deeper into the history of French lower classes and peasants, I then understood how the centuries of oppression, cruelty and indifference led to them.
No, I'm not hinting we're at that point, but there will be a reckoning. I hope it's a peaceful one.
History may not repeat, but it always rhymes.

(38,428 posts)...How did this happen? His total stupidity, arrogance, and total self delusion. Donald Trump cares only about himself.
If Trump cared about our country and our people, he would have handled the entire virus disaster totally differently. He would have consulted with European leaders who had already dealt with this. Made it absolutely clear he was immediately working with experts as opposed to saying it will go away. His whole attitude would have been different if he cared about other people.
....Donald Trump only cares about Donald Trump and no one else. That idea now clear to most of the people in the United States and that is the main reason he will lose in November..

(41,831 posts)He is stupid, ignorant but he has been involved in lots of shady deals in the past. Being President to sure avoid imprisonment. He joked about shooting someone on 5th avenue... well he didn't have to... he has set fire to this country just to watch it burn.

(10,137 posts)With a lot of red states just not bothering to count, or attributing Covid-19 deaths to other causes, I think the actual death toll is at least 20% higher.
120,000 is the population of my town and the two adjacent ones. It's roughly the population of Lansing, MI. It's too many deaths that could have been prevented if there were a human being in the White House.
