The WSJ told Trump that the 75-year-old protester shoved by police in Buffalo, Martin Gugino, has a brain injury and can't walk. Trump called him a "professional agitator," made some additional baseless insinuations about him, and said this.

“I don’t like to see people hurt,” the president said. “But he put himself right into the midst of the soldiers. These police, they meant business. They were walking and he puts himself right there. And you could tell they knew him. They knew him. But he’s had a long history. Too bad he had to get hurt.”

Second... Police are NOT soldiers. The job of a soldier is to close ranks with the enemy, destroy that enemy, and hold space, until the enemy retreats or is defeated. The job of the police is multiple things but includes maintaining public safety. Pushing down a lone, unarmed, 75 year old man, is NOT maintaining public safety.
