From the article:
During an interview with the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) podcast Learning Curve, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said anti-science bias is to blame for much of the novel coronaviruss impact on the United States.
One of the problems we face in the United States is that unfortunately, there is a combination of an anti-science bias that people are for reasons that sometimes are, you know, inconceivable and not understandable they just dont believe science and they dont believe authority, Fauci said

Many Trump voters ignore science, and reality. Trump generally tells people that he trusts his gut feelings rather than relying on experts or information.

(22,366 posts)5. None other than Rush Limbaugh said it
The four corners of deceit: government, academia, science and media. Those institutions are now corrupt and exist by virtue of deceit. That's how they promulgate themselves; it is how they prosper.
Quoted in https://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2010/09/is-the-right-wing-anti-science/344226/ from way back in 2010
Rush said it and they believe it. That's why they were called "dittoheads"

(42,641 posts)6. There is a speck of truth in what Limbaugh said.
But in reality, it is the far right that deceives its voters.

because they believe in the wrong authorities. Those authorities don't believe in science, experts, or experience.
Most of these people are ironically, Authoritarians.
They "believe" virtually anyone who will tell them what they want to believe and what they want to hear. The right wing nuts are particularly vulnerable to this. But the left wing has elements of magical thinking too.

The MAGA slogan is meaningless, and certainly not a plan, but it provides, for some, a vision of an America that never was.
