"SNIP.....
Less than 200 polling places will be open for voters in Kentuckys primary Tuesday, down from 3,700 in a typical election year. Amid a huge influx in requests for mail-in ballots, some voters still had not received theirs days before they must be turned in. And turnout is expected to be higher than in past primaries because of a suddenly competitive fight for the Democratic Senate nomination, the Washington Post reports.
The scenario has voting-rights advocates and some local elections officials worried that the state is careening toward a messy day marked by long lines and frustrated voters similar to the scenes that have played out repeatedly this spring as the novel coronavirus pandemic has disrupted the 2020 primaries.

(25,981 posts)from occurring again and again. One important point: between now and November, every single state has plenty of time to correct the lack of polling places. Using Covid as an excuse will not fly.

On edit: Didn't democrat Beshear recently become governor? Can't he call out the national guard to secure the election? I forgot that Kentucky was starting to turn purple, and evidently the Secy of State and their elections commission can't stand it!

(509 posts)There are 120 counties in Kentucky. Most counties are very small. My county has had a single voting place for the whole county for 25 years. It's not a BIG deal. The state has been very proactive in getting people to get a mail in a ballot. They even sent a postcard to EVERY voter telling them to go online or call your local county clerk to request a ballot. Also, the ballots are free to mail. Also, each county allows for in-person absentee voting so if you don't want to use the mail, you can go vote now. If there are lines of people, then it's their fault. This article is an overreaction. Gov. Beshear is NOT suppressing votes in Kentucky.
