Americas allies and rivals face a tough choice as Donald Trump trails in polls ahead of Novembers presidential election: Wait to see if he loses to presumptive Democratic candidate Joe Biden, or cut deals now to avoid negotiating with an emboldened second-term Trump.
The president addressed that dilemma himself in a tweet celebrating the release of an American prisoner, Michael White, from Iran earlier this month.
Dont wait until after U.S. Election to make the Big deal, Trump wrote. Im going to win. Youll make a better deal now!

They're going to be dealing with whomever wins.
Just like every 4 years.
And, just like every 4 years, they'll drag their feet on major issues waiting to see what happens.
It's not a dilemma. It's business as usual, every 4th year.

(59,504 posts)On anything significant. He has broken deals, some from as far back as Reagan and he has made unilateral moves. I can think of only one thing where he, his SOS if anyone in his administration
negotiated anything and that was the NAFTA replacement where the new provisions were mostly similar to things included in TPP. Not to mention, he does not seem stable enough to even engage in diplomacy.
Not to mention, in diplomacy you make the best deal possible based on your national interests. If a deal is good now, it would probably still be in the national interest after January. But, that assumes he is considering the national interest! Not likely!
