San Francisco man fired after he's caught blocking Hispanic neighbor from building

June 26, 2020

By Travis Gettys

A San Francisco man was blocked from entering his own apartment building by a white couple who called him a “criminal.”

Michael Barajas, a Berkeley graduate and community educator for a biopharmaceutical company, said he used his remote key fob to open the garage door to SOMA Residences after coming home Tuesday evening from buying fruit, but a white SUV pulling in ahead of him purposefully blocked the entrance to the garage, reported KGO-TV.

“His immediate reaction was, ‘Hey, you f*cking criminal, you’re not coming in here,'” Barajas said.

SOMA Residences told the TV station they’re working to resolve the situation, and Beasley was fired from his tech job with APEX Systems.

Apparently, Beasley has been evicted from his SOMA Residences apartment now, too. Live by ignorance, die by ignorance.

Racism is so toxic and harmful we not only need to push back hard, we need to crush it. I’m glad these abusive racists suffered consequences for their actions. This needs to happen so much more.

5. And, of course, there's the Tucson police murder of a 27-year-old

Hispanic in April while in custody. He was held face down until his "I can't breathe"s and calls for his grandmother finally ended. Cover-up's failed failed, the video's become public, the officers who resigned... We'll see.

And in LA a police shooting murder of an 18-year-old Hispanic teen who worked as a security guard:

NYT: Mr. Guardado, whose family is from El Salvador, was dedicated to working and learning his trade, his uncle said. “He was always cheerful — I never saw him sad or angry,” Mr. Abarca said in Spanish. “He had gained the respect and the admiration of our whole family.”

“I haven’t slept in two days,” he added.

The Sheriff’s Department said that two deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station pursued Mr. Guardado on foot, and that one deputy fired six rounds, hitting him in the upper torso. Mr. Guardado was not wearing a security guard’s uniform, the department said, and a handgun without identifying marks or serial numbers was recovered at the scene.

The deputies were not wearing body cameras.

6. Do these racists learn anything? I'm not sure they do.

It seems likely this guy will simply move someplace where everyone is like him and then he'll spend the rest of his life with a big chip on his shoulder hating California "liberals" and people who are not white.

There are still plenty of communities and neighborhoods in the U.S.A. that do not welcome people who are not white, even though formal sorts of discrimination such as redlining have been against the law for more than half a century.

everyone like him. And those places are growing smaller each day. Society is becoming more diverse every day and large benefits are being gained from that diversity, we are not going back, even with people like Trump trying to pull us backwards.

I don't blame my parents, they are artists who went where their day jobs took them rather than starve. But there's no way in hell I'd ever return to such places.

My wife and I have successfully avoided majority white communities since we first met. We made a very deliberate decision not to raise our own children in majority white communities.

Personally, I didn't want my children to be as fucking clueless as I was when I escaped from white suburban hell.

There are some very entitled “winners” there. I spend a lot of time there, and there are many lovely people. But the tech asshole presence is strong.

South of Market (street).

It has become heavily, heavily gentrified over the past decade. Lots of high-priced condos, expensive restaurants and stores, etc. It’s also considered Castro Jr. as there are a number of gay bars clustered in the area.

It also has the city’s only Costco for some reason.

South of Market (or SoMa) is a neighborhood in San Francisco, California, situated just south of Market Street. It contains several sub-neighborhoods including South Beach, Yerba Buena, and Rincon Hill.

SoMa is home to many of the city's museums, to the headquarters of several major software and Internet companies, and to the Moscone Conference Center.
