Been waiting all day to see reporting on networks.
I think Trump called a task force meeting to push this story aside.

(9,959 posts)... no doubt Crooked Donald is more concerned with saving Confederate generals that are already dead, than our present-day Yankee soldiers.
And that is accurate framing.

(13,776 posts)What turned out to be the big story of the day after that big announcement? Something about China but I forget... its all a blur. It seemed like a bit of a letdown but maybe this is it.
This seems really, really big. How could anybody in the military or with loved ones in the military forgive his apathy or tacit agreement with Russias PAYING A BOUNTY FOR AMERICAN DEATHS?

(2,406 posts)WASHINGTON American intelligence officials have concluded that a Russian military intelligence unit secretly offered bounties to Taliban-linked militants for killing coalition forces in Afghanistan including targeting American troops amid the peace talks to end the long-running war there, according to officials briefed on the matter.
The United States concluded months ago that the Russian unit, which has been linked to assassination attempts and other covert operations in Europe intended to destabilize the West or take revenge on turncoats, had covertly offered rewards for successful attacks last year.

But lets not forget. In the 80s we pretty much created the Taliban to defeat the Russians. Even gave them shoulder fired anti-aircraft weapons that changed the war.
So they respond in kind.
Not defending their actions. But is anyone surprised?
On edit: another DU member pointed out that this makes me look like I am defending the Russians. I did a poor job wording it and it did not reflect my meaning. Blame it on my ignorance. Or the bourbon.
The Russians have been aching for payback for the 80s which Putin remembers. But with a real president like President Obama never would do it. He would have dropped the hammer. But since they have a lackey in the White House they knew they could get away with it. And they did.
I apologize that I left too much to be assumed in my post and did not go into enough detail. My father was an editor. He taught me that if anything I say or write fails to communicate my meaning it is always my fault. Never the reader or listener.

(31,261 posts)This current situation is one where a cash offering is being made for the death of our country's soldiers, the president was told about the activity and he still is trying to reward the person responsible with a big prestige reward (being part of the world's most potent economic decision-makers).

(68,586 posts)protect our soldiers. I have family in he military right now...and they have served in Afghanistan...Trump is a traitor. I don't give a crap what happened in the 80's ...not an excuse for what they did now.

(11,949 posts)But my point was with a nation ruled by Putin who is surprised?
The surprising thing, or perhaps not surprising, is that trump did not give a shit. Still tried to get Putin into the G8.
Re-reading my post I can see how my meaning was not properly communicated. I apologize for that.
Putin would not try that unless he knew he had a lackey in the White House. Would have never tried it with President Obama. I will edit my post to better reflect my meaning.

(3,836 posts)It was quite a rant, considering trump was told about the bounty in March and his only response was to invite Putin to be reinstalled into the G8 and etc. Catch it if you can.

(11,770 posts)My opinion (I wish it was), but not in the legal sense, but maybe some other federal chargeable offense. Lots of lawyers here on DU... What is this!?! How can the traitor in chief allow what basically is a bounty on the heads of our men and women in armed service? Does Congress have ANY avenue to protect our military?
I don't have cable, so just internet shit for news, unless I come to DU or BBC. I HATE trying to find current news on our TV internet. You'll be listening to a story that happened today, next is some shit from three years ago. It's Maddening!

(11,770 posts)Is there a link to an actual discussion? I am so frustrated! This is huge news and yet, I checked MSNBC and CNN and there is nothing! on their pages. I guess check BBC?
