Idiot-in-chief tweeting about Obamacare again

Remind me, what’s his “far better and much less expensive alternative“?

?s=21

Now that the very expensive, unpopular and unfair Individual Mandate provision has been terminated by us, many States & the U.S. are asking the Supreme Court that Obamacare itself be terminated so that it can be replaced with a FAR BETTER AND MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE ALTERNATIVE.....

..Obamacare is a joke! Deductible is far too high and the overall cost is ridiculous. My Administration has gone out of its way to manage OC much better than previous, but it is still no good. I will ALWAYS PROTECT PEOPLE WITH PRE-EXISTING CONDITIONS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS,ALWAYS!!!

Just look at his body shape and his health habits.
Donny gets free medical care in White House.
Otherwise he is a walking time bomb for heart attack or stroke, and would be dead if he was poor.

Then look at my example.
Just burned 80 candles a few weeks ago.
I need zero medications, have zero need to visit doctors, have zero pains and aches in my body!
I eat anything I want, pizza with sausage and pepperoni is my favorite.
When I retired at age 57 due to poor health, I was a mess.
Had fainting spells at job, panic attacks in closed malls, was border line diabetic, and had 25 points higher than desired blood pressure.
And I had hip joint pain. Thought I needed a hip replacement.

My secret to such astounding turn around in my health?
I resigned from the high paying job at age 57, moved to a cheap town in Washington state,
joined a cheap private golf club (Orchard Hills country club), and began playing as much golf as I could handle.
Started playing 9 holes 3 times a week.
In a few months I was walking 18 holes 5 times every week. That is 30 miles walking in a week.
Amazingly, my health problems began to disappear!
No more border line diabetic, no more hip joint pain, blood pressure 125/75.
I get free medical checkups with my Medicare Advantage plan, but I really don't need them.
Everything is always normal. Even my memory has improved!

Now living in Florida, I have quit golf. For one thing weather was much better in WA state for golf. Too hot for golf here.
No sense paying joining fees at private club at age 80.
Now it is treadmill every day for 30 minutes set at 3 deg up moving at 22 minutes/mile.
Medicare does not spend any money on me!
But social security probably hates me...collecting since age 62 and aiming for age 100!!!

Not everyone can afford even a cheap private golf club, or would have the time to use it because they can't afford to take time off their minimum-wage jobs, let alone retire. Some people can't afford to move to Florida (and maybe wouldn't want to if they could). Some people live in food deserts where they can't get healthful food and couldn't afford it if they did. Your affluence made your good health possible. I'm all in favor of a healthy lifestyle and wish everyone had the option of living one. But sometimes not even that will make a difference.

Some people inherit or acquire health problems that exercise and money can't cure. Steve Jobs died of cancer at 56. Remember Jim Fixx, the runner who helped popularize jogging and healthy eating? He died of a heart attack at the ripe old age of 52. On the other hand my grandmother, who never ran a step as far as I knew, had always been overweight and lived on meat and potatoes her whole life, lived to be 98. Why Trump is still alive is a mystery, but his lifestyle, at least with respect to exercise, is probably not much worse than my grandmother's was.

But this is why we need the ACA. Not everyone can afford what it takes for good health, and sometimes even those who can, get sick anyhow.

22. Most people do not save money when they are young and have jobs
Sat Jun 27, 2020, 12:43 PM
Jun 2020

When I was in my 20's and single, I saved 60-70% of my paychecks.
I never made big paychecks in my 20's. It is easier to rough it when you are young.
The magic of compounding interest makes your old age more comfortable, when you need it most.

But I realize most people do not have the discipline I have. They spend more than they should.
Then they make excuses they don't have money. If they lived BELOW their means like I did, things would be different in old age.
I lived in cheap apartments on Clark Street in Chicago. And I drove 10 year old used jalopies.

Cheap private club golf is LOT CHEAPER than playing public courses.
Because you pay one fixed charge every month and can play unlimited rounds of golf.
Ideal for a retired person.

My monthly fee at Orchard Hills country club was around $250/month.
I played 20 rounds every month. So it cost me $12.50 each round, much cheaper than most public courses.
And the course was less crowded than public courses. And the course was maintained better than public courses.

Many people don't save because they can't. If you are making minimum wage you probably can't even rent a livable apartment in many cities, let alone buy a car, let alone buy nourishing food, no matter how young you are. There is no money left over to save, no matter how much discipline you might have. Most of their discipline goes into deciding whether to keep the lights on or buy medicine. Paying $250 per month for a "cheap" golf club membership is far beyond the means of people making $7.25 an hour; it's not even in their universe. If you're working two minimum-wage jobs just to keep food on the table you won't have time for golf or any other recreational activity.

The federal minimum wage of $7.25 an hour is about $15,000 per year. Most minimum wage jobs don't offer paid vacation or time off or health insurance. The rate of inflation for housing, food and other goods and services has increased to the point where that isn't a living wage in most cities, even for single people. You could get by on a low-paying job 40 or 50 years ago, but it's just not possible any more. Don't preach to people about discipline when they can't even afford food.

Look at the sales of brand new cars, expensive apartment rentals, pricey houses...there are millions of them.
I am talking about my 2 young kids in their 20's. Both make 3 times minimum wage of $15/hr. They save nothing!
One pays $3300/month rent. The other has a flashy new car. I paid 1/10th of my paycheck in rent when I was in my 20's.
My kids will complain when they get old that they don't have enough money.

at age 20 with admission in university of Iowa towards my master's in engineering.
Only reason U of I admitted me was my good grades from the college in India.
I put myself through the university by working 20 hours every week in the hospital washing dirty cooking pots in the hospital kitchen.
And I studied my ass off so I could qualify for a scholarship in the 2nd semester.

I guess it does require hard work to improve your future earning potential.

Sat Jun 27, 2020, 02:13 PM

When I went to college the tuition was about $2,000 per year, which would be about $14,000 in today's dollars - but the tuition at that college is now about $45,000 per year. It's pretty tough to earn that much washing pots these days. I also washed dishes when I was in college, and I worked my way through law school later, but that was more than 40 years ago. Scholarships are harder to get now and they don't cover nearly everything, and student loans are crushing - these days student loan payments can be more than a mortgage payment. My point is that what might have been possible at one time for you and others just isn't any more for many people. Your superior existence is no longer available to much of America no matter how hard they might try. So don't preach.

Especially recently, I've started to recognize my privilege and the fact that however much work I may have done I never had to try to pull myself up by my bootstraps when I couldn't even afford boots. My privilege made it possible for me to buy boots, and knowing that also makes me aware of how many people just can't do it. So I'm not about to hold myself out as an example of the virtues of industry and frugality or preach to others about the bootstraps they don't have, can't get, but should be pulling themselves up by anyhow. That philosophy belongs to the GOP.
