Voters are really starting to hate Trump, like, everywhere

Donald Trump's disapproval rating is hitting some of its highest marks of his entire tenure—including its absolute highest mark in one poll.

In the NPR/PBS/Marist poll released Friday, 58% of voters disapproved of the job Trump is doing, an all-time high for the poll. Plus, most of those who disapprove of Trump do so with a white-hot rage. Fully 49% of voters said they "strongly disapprove" of Trump, a number that jumped 8 points since mid-March when 41% strongly disapproved of him. The two groups where that forceful disapproval grew most was among independents, whose strong disapproval of Trump spiked by 10 points since March to 43%, and nonwhite voters, whose strong disapproval jumped 16 points to 57%.

But the NPR/PBS poll is no outlier. Trump's disapprovals are also surging in FiveThirtyEight's aggregate, which on Friday recorded the highest disapproval rating for Trump in over two years at 56.1%. That number represents even more disenchantment with Trump now than during his shutdown debacle of early 2019.

On top of Trump's epic disapprovals, we continue to see evidence that groups that once voted for Trump, and Republicans more generally, are turning against him. In the NPR/PBS poll, Biden had a dominant 25-point lead on Trump in the suburbs, 60% - 35%, while Trump actually won the suburbs by 4 points in 2016, 49% to 45%.

Even in the darkest days, the GOP has never got less than 36% of the vote in a (two-party) presidential election, Hoover in '32 got 39.7% (41.2% excluding the Deep South)

For both parties, 35% would seem to be a concrete floor. (In 1912 the GOP split. Taft received 23% and TR 27%)

With today's hyper-polarization, approval is not much more than a cipher for voting intentions. trumps approval has clung closely to 41-2% the entire time. 90%+ of those who approve will vote GOP.

I would settle for trump 'winning' 39.5% of the vote. The worst defeat ever of a sitting president.

the closest his approval and disapproval numbers came together looks to be around March/April this year -- right around the time coronavirus was starting to hit big. That was the moment when Trump had the opportunity to rally Americans in a moment of national crisis -- when people were actually willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, and hoped that he would do the right thing.

Most other world leaders took that moment and capitalized on it politically by a) using it as a moment of national unity, and b) actually working to mitigate the crisis as much as possible.

Instead, like everything else in his life, Trump squandered it. He blew the coronavirus response, doubled down on his policy of division, and you can see the result as the approval and disapproval numbers rapidly separate again.

I've heard a number of Republicans squeaking lately about how Trump needs to "act now" to "change course" if he wants to be re-elected, but about four months have passed since Trump's approval and disapproval ratings got the closest together on that chart, and that's all the time he has left to reverse course. Given the way those lines are trending, I think his goose might be cooked already.

What an epic failure on every level.

that concerns the well being of others. It's just not there, he doesn't have the empathy gene. It's all about what's good for him.

Like stupidly urging governors to re-open with the virus still raging because he thought it would spur the economy and get him re-elected, which of course shows, which we all know, he doesn't have the smart gene either.

As a psychopath, he lives to create chaos and pain. This virus has expeditiously created a wave of sorrow he couldn't have achieved without it. It's the perfect tool for destruction. He, no doubt believes he's hit the lottery. There's no failure. To the psychopath, to hurt is to love. Wrap that hideous concept around your head and you will know exactly how potus feels. It's frightening.

As a leader, he's an unqualified zero.

Can you imagine what things would look like if he actually took strong, decisive action to carry the nation through this pandemic.
He'd be at 60+% approval, and a shoo-in to be reelected.

As it is, he's too stupid to see an opportunity, even when it's right in his face.

And, this monumental lack of leadership is costing 10's of thousands of Americans their lives.

So, Trump's monument will say, "I don't take responsibility at all".
That's the first, and perhaps the only time, he actually told the truth!
