We can experience shame, regret, and sorrow. We know when we're wrong. When we've done bad.

Trump can't.

The only thing that registers with him is not the content of the criticism but that he was criticized at all.

Someone said something negative about him. That's all he sees.

Doesn't matter how accurate or true, that doesn't make an impression. He'll deny it all - because he can't be wrong on any level. He believes he can do no wrong.

So he sees those pointing out that he is wrong as unjustified attacks.
