Nearly 60,000 pounds of chicken breast nuggets are being recalled because they "may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically flexible rubber material," the Department of Agricultures Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Sunday.
Pilgrims Pride Corporation, of Waco, Texas, is recalling 4-pound bags of "Pilgrim's Fully Cooked Chicken Breast Nuggets" that were produced May 6 and distributed to stores in four states, according to a news release.
The frozen ready-to-eat nuggets have a "Best-By date" of May 6, 2021 and lot code of 0127 and establishment number P-20728 printed on the retail package. The items were shipped to stores in Arizona, Idaho, Oregon, and Texas.
"The problem was discovered after the firm received a consumer complaint reporting rubber pieces in the chicken breast nuggets product," the release states.

Board member 2: Well...sawdust is being used effectively by some...
Board member 3: The nearest supply of fibrous byproduct for potential additive is 134 miles away. Shipping costs are a real consideration. Are there alternatives that are closer?
Board member 2: Hmmmmm... Well, I've got a friend--a former brother from Tri-Omega--who may be able to connect us with a very cost-minimal source of rubber powder and extra fine rubber fill...we need a filler that is relatively consistent with the texture of our processed poultry product.
Board member 4: YES. Let's put that in. Ha! Perfect!
