Texas prosecutor resigns over sharing Facebook post comparing Black Lives Matter to the Nazis

A prosecutor in Texas has resigned over her sharing of a Facebook post that compared demonstrators against racial injustice to Nazis.

Kaylynn Williford, a prosecutor in Harris County, which includes Houston, resigned Monday, days after she shared the post from a Facebook page that has criticized the Black Lives Matter movement and praised President Donald Trump, The New York Times reported.

Williford shared the post on Thursday and said she removed it shortly after, when someone pointed out how offensive it was.

A criminal defense lawyer in Houston saved the post in a screenshot and posted it on Facebook. Mauro Beltramini told The New York Times he saw it on Friday.

The post shows an image of hundreds of rings in a box, likely removed from a Nazi death camp. The caption reads: “Wedding bands that were removed from Holocaust victims prior to being executed, 1945. Each ring represents a destroyed family. Never forget, Nazis tore down statues. Banned free speech. Blamed economic hardships on one group of people. Institute gun control. Sound familiar?”

Must be reviewed with an eye towards prosecutorial malfeasance.

It's only too bad it took so long for the internet, social media, wireless connectivity, and cell phone cameras took so long to become widespread enough for everyone to be able to see everything we've always been.

tribalism was during the election of Ronnie Raygun in 1980. A lot of people that I would have never expected embraced his "business over people" philosophy and it seems to have gone down hill ever since...getting worse and worse over time. These days the nastiness is in your face. Greed, Bullying, guns are the answer mentality, they are attacking my religion crap, open racism, crazy nationalism, and now Corporations being far more important than people even in our judicial and justice systems. I fear this has become America and it totally sucks. As bad as the Vietnam era was it was much nicer than now --unless you were drafted and sent off to die for another of our meaningless, useless wars.

I thought the 21st century was supposed to be the "Age of Aquarius"?

9. Nope. That she thought it a good idea to post in the first place shows lack of fitness to serve.

You are certainly allowed to have political views, but if you think it is a good idea to insinuate that liberal organizations are akin to Nazis, then you are likely to become a liability to the organization for which you work. If I were a State, County, or other local jurisdiction, I would think twice about her representing the government.

Maybe the defense attorney had a grudge, but she brought it upon herself by putting that vile crap out there. Payback can be rough.

They always try to equate Nazis with liberal or left leaning organizations even thought fascists are an exclusively right wing phenomena. Movements like BLM and affiliates are trying to remove statues depicting traitors who fought against the United States in order to defend slavery and White Supremacy. No one is "banning" free speech. We are certainly attempting to give social and financial consequences for speech that is hateful and destructive but nobody is making it illegal or trying to ban it. On blaming economic hardships on "one group of people", the Nazis blamed Jews, who were a minority group that was already oppressed in much of Europe. BLM and allies attribute the current economic problems to the wealthiest percent of income and asset holders, who own more wealth than 50% of the rest of us put together. We are talking the richest 400 families owning more of this country than 150 million citizens, not an oppressed minority in the least. Gun control? That was a myth about the Nazis too. They did not promote gun control at all. In fact, they promoted firearms EXCEPT FOR JEWS!

Why is it that right wingers are always so stupid? Glad she was forced to resign. We don't need anyone like her in positions of power.

15. Her attempt to spin her way out of it was laughable. From the article:

Williford in a statement emailed to the newspaper confirmed that she had shared the post, but had not intended to make a comparison to Black Lives Matter protests.

“What I interpreted as a post that promoted tolerance was taken in a completely different manner,” she said.
