It will be like Foreman vs Frazier, an absolute ass kicking. We have already seen brutal attack ads against Trump. I believe we haven't seen nothing yet.
He is going to get pounded for how he handled the virus. He will be blamed for the deaths. He will get pounded for not protecting our troops.
He will get beaten badly at the debates. He will be asked questions about the above and he will look like a fool.
When the election kicks into full gear next month, the death toll from the virus will be increasing at a higher rate. By next month we should know if Republican veterans have turned on Trump.
Over the past 4 years Trump has attacked everyone. He has made so many powerful enemies and they are organizing, they are out for blood. Trump is about to hit by something that he will not be able to handle. A tidal wave of patriotism, revenge, retribution.
This election is now about life and death. The American people will choose life.

(12,265 posts)A large percentage of Democrats and Independents stayed home in 2016 because they felt "confident it would be a big win for Hillary", it wasn't because these people who felt confident stayed home to clean their bathrooms.
I grow weary of voters who need to feel "encouraged and happy all the time" to GOTV.

(68,579 posts)the vote. I also believe Comey played a roll in her loss. And the left voted for Stein in numbers that would have given us a win had they voted for Clinton. So the lesson of 16 is not that we were complacent but that we need to be a united party every election... vote blue no matter who. When we are not united, we lose...2000,2004 and of course 2016. Also, Trump barely won. He eked out a victory in the blue wall states to win the EC. He lost the popular vote. He is losing in the blue wall states as well as Arizona, Florida, North Carolina, Georgia and even Texas...this time. Thus, your concern is not based on reality and only dampens enthusiasm. Positive thinking when based in reality helps encourage voting and revs up the excitement. We will GOTV and I believe have a realignment election.

(68,579 posts)no matter what the polls say Trump will win. Lots of replies like this too.....remember 2016, Polls are unreliable (especially the good ones for Biden)...dozens of folks note how depressed they are when good polls hit...sick of it. We are going to beat Trump and take back the Senate...we may be looking at a landslide and I refuse to to be less enthused about the coming elections. based on doom and gloomers. 2016 is nothing like this election. And I notice that many who post this stuff supported a different candidate and while they want Trump gone, they don't like the idea that many of us who opined that Biden was the best candidate for this particular election, were right and we are likely to win this election in a big way and take back the senate too.

(68,579 posts)did not vote for Clinton but voted for Stein. And the blue wall states were targeted ...we lost because of this. Had these folks voted blue not matter who, Clinton would be president and thousands of Americans would be alive, we would not have GOP SCOTUS and other court picks and we would not be facing a depression. Vote blue no matter who and we will be just fine. That is the lesson from 16...nothing to do with polls or overconfidence.

(14,757 posts)He may get two more scotus seats to dangle before the drooling masses. Sure, they are already putrid scum suckers, but they are old and potentially replaceable under biden. That will push repugs to hold their nose and vote.
Plus, he has voter suppression, russia/china hacking of voting systems, the trick to prevent states from certifying the EC numbers, and marshal law still to play out.
The world you describe is a mere microcosm of what the game on the ground will be. He stands a very good chance of getting 30% of the vote and still being declared potus again.
He unfortunately has nerely unlimited power since he is being backed up by the near entirety of the gop senate and the us ag. Democracy IS dying. Sadly, what you describe could only be relevant under a true democracy. The battle is much, much, larger this round.

Unless we forget to actually get enough votes in the right states to win the EC. Once again the popular election is essentially a foregone conclusion that Biden will get more votes. We need to make sure we get over 270 Electoral votes.

(6,148 posts)The death toll continues to go down. Every time I think it's going to turn, it doesn't.
If Trump is looking strictly at the number of deaths, he can make a credible case that "it is going away".

(6,148 posts)that's why I said that "I keep waiting".
The spike began around June 15. The death rate continues to go down, even 3 weeks later.
I thought it would have gone up about a week ago.
