Wesley Clark says Trump not serving in Vietnam 'might have been for the best'

Former U.S. Army Gen. Wesley Clark said President Trump dodging the draft during the Vietnam War “might have been for the best” in light of reports that he was aware of intelligence that Russia paid secret bounties to militants to kill U.S. troops and failed to act.

A West Point graduate and Rhodes Scholar, Clark also ran for president during the 2004 election, but dropped out early that year while endorsing eventual Democratic nominee John Kerry.

“President Trump receives well-deserved criticism for failing to serve his country in Vietnam,” Clark, a highly-decorated general who served as the former Supreme Allied Commander of NATO under President Clinton, wrote in an op-ed for USA Today.

“Yet, given the lack of loyalty to the troops he has displayed in recent months, that might have been for the best,” Clark added. “Were he in A Company back then, he wouldn’t have charged across that bridge — he would have hung back and let the rest of us fend for ourselves. I and the others might never have made it home.”

Another possibility: fire fight, he's wounded, the platoon pulls out, corporal shouts, "Sarge, the lieutenant is still back there!", sarge, "Can't hear you! Haul ass people!" Leave no one behind? Sometimes there's exceptions.

The other: He's in a support MOS. Does about an hour's worth of work a day and fucks that up. Off duty, he's at the local knocking shops and bars doing under the table deals.

Giggling maniacally while shooting civilians. Just like the guys he's been pardoning.

Clint Lorance had been in charge of his platoon for only three days when he ordered his men to kill three Afghans stopped on a dirt road.
A second-degree murder conviction and pardon followed.
Today, Lorance is hailed as a hero by President Trump.
His troops have suffered a very different fate.

Trump wouldn't have had the opportunity to get good men killed. As soon as he got to basic training, his drill sergeants would have taken one look at him and said, "son, the Quartermaster Corps needs men like you."

He would have spent his whole hitch issuing C-rations and toilet paper at base camp, and participating in "patterns of minor misconduct" he hopes would get him kicked out, but would only have got him demoted seven or eight times.

Officers could get away with that shit. Enlisted men tended to get hanged by the toes over the base camp gate as a warning to the others.
