Oregon State Police dont wear coronavirus masks while patronizing coffee shop, despite governors order

A group of Oregon State Police troopers appeared to defy Gov. Kate Browns statewide mask order while in uniform Wednesday, entering a Corvallis coffee shop without wearing required face coverings, video obtained by The Oregonian/OregonLive shows.
The stores assistant manager, Travis Boss, said he told the first trooper who arrived that the trooper needed to wear a mask.
Governor Brown has no authority to take our civil liberties. We arent going to wear masks, the trooper allegedly said, according to a written statement from Boss provided to the newsroom.
The trooper proceeded to place his order, Boss said in an interview, offering a foul-mouthed retort to the governors mandate that masks be worn within indoor public spaces.
He said, F--- Kate Brown, Boss recalled.

(82,849 posts)The guys on duty were the owners, and Corvallis can be a really small town (I grew up in Albany). From the footage aired on the local news this evening, the owners appeared very polite and solicitous, and finally asked the cops to leave when the four of them sat down at an inside to enjoy their drinks without masks.
All that being said, it was an Allann Bros. coffee shop, and if you're a coffee drinker, you should stop in if you ever have a chance. It's very good stuff.

(25,861 posts)But business owners need to get very firm about not allowing unmasked people.
Here in New Mexico, we now have a $100 fine for not being masked in public places. Good. This state has kept the epidemic largely under control, in no small part because we closed down early and have been cautious about opening up. I really need a hair cut. I'd better get one soon before the hair cutting places are closed again.

(82,849 posts)But they have to have a plan ahead of time. A sign out front along the lines of "No Shoes, No Shirt, No Mask, No Service. No Fooling." Some folks will mask up in an "Oh, I forgot" way. Others will mask up grumbling. Who cares, as long as they comply. Still others are going to contest it but will conform if they see the business is serious. Or they might turn around and walk out. Finally, there are going to be the truculent few yammering nonsense about their rights and refusing to leave. That's when the business has to have a plan. How do you get the person to either comply or leave without escalating the situation. Some of the truculent ones want to make a scene and cause a ruckus because they crave the attention.

His job is to first, grow up and then enforce the law and comply with it. That's all.

(82,849 posts)This week several Oregon State Police officers made headlines when they ignored my face covering requirement. Im focused on saving lives, not firing people for making a single mistake. So today I invited three of them to sit down with me at Mahonia.
We talked about kids, our families, and the importance of setting a good example. They took responsibility and expressed real regret for their actions. And they pledged to do better.
Heres the thing: Were all having to make adjustments to slow the spread of COVID-19. None of this is fun and some of it is really hard. But wearing a face covering to protect those around us? Thats easy. The officers and I agreed today that face coverings save lives. So youll see them and me wearing a face covering each and every day until we beat this virus.
"Mahonia" is Mahonia Hall, the governor's official residence, in case you're wondering. If you weren't wondering, "Mahonia" is Mahonia Hall, the governor's official residence.
Show of hands: How many folks think Trump would do this? Anyone?

I'd like to think these idiots learned something, but I doubt it. They'll just hide it better.
