(14,861 posts)A Canaanite woman came pleading Jesus for help for her sick daughter. She got on the nerves of the disciples, and they wanted her sent away. Jesus didn't rebuke them. First he rudely ignored her, but when she persisted, he told her, "I was sent only to the lost sheep of Israel," and she was of a different ethnicity. Then he compared her to a dog begging for scraps. Only after she agreed with this dehumanizing characterization of her, and groveled enough to suit him, did he relent and heal her daughter.
