Fixing my home, paying down dept while on unemployment.

That's what I have been doing, because the future is so uncertain I believe this is the smartest thing I can do right now. The extra $600 runs out at the end of this month. I have been putting that money to good use. Who the hell knows what is going to happen next, no one.

Scary times for sure.

we paid off our house years ago and created a trust. It only took a decent lawyer. demigoddess Jul 2020 #5

We still had about $8000 left to pay on our mortgage. I didn't have any confidence in trump and while the opportunity was there we crunched the numbers and felt that 1-1/2 years was a good timeline to pay off the remaining mortgage. We paid the house off as planned.

It was a good thing we did. The very next year we were hit with a huge veterinarian bill. It was either have surgery on the dog or put her to sleep. The second choice wasn't an option.

bought low one year ago cash

Made a little to put in savings.

Every 2nd of the month I tell my wife that I forgot to make the mortgage payment yesterday.

Now, I just need to find out if placing the house in a trust to protect it against medical liens is possible or feasible.

Anyone have any idea? No medical at present but we (wife and I), are in our upper 60s.

Thanks

Find a good elder-law or estate attorney. If you have plans to move to a different state, have the trust reviewed by a lawyer there. There’s a five year look back period, so don’t get sick for five years afterwards.
