Texas Sheriffs Refuse to Enforce Mask Order

Sheriffs in at least eight Texas counties — Denton, Nacogdoches, Smith, Upshur, Kerr, Gillespie, Panola and Montgomery — are refusing to fine or cite people who defy Gov. Greg Abbott’s order requiring masks in public, the Washington Post reports.

1. Its not just Texas..here in Wash state very few of the sheriffs are enforcing it so far...

..the rest are going public saying its NOT their job to enforce it. They all have the same message..Im sure whatever club they belong to is issuing orders. But we have a Dem Gov..so I thought it was to get back at him but Texas is an R..and they are still defying him.

3. Just thought about this a couple of days ago.

Many sheriffs have been selectively ignoring enforcement of laws they personally don't agree with for some time now, mostly around gun control, with a wink and a nod by local red county governments, or to the consternation of primarily blue governments. Now when we have a pandemic, the impacts of which are 100 or 1000 times that of gun violence, guess what? The sheriffs don't personally like mask mandates, so they're not going to enforce it. Seeing the tide turning on law enforcement accountability from the BLM protests probably isn't helping their motivation, either.

This is an indication that the LEO unions are too strong. Not only is there limited ability to effect change in the system of accountability for excessive force and other misconduct, now we can't even get some of them to enforce the laws when the country is in dire straits.

What are you going to do about that, DeSantis, Abbott & Ducey?
