Two residents in Martinez have been charged with a hate crime for defacing a Black Lives Matter mural on July 4, according to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s office.

42-year-old Nichole Anderson and 53-year-old David Nelson were charged for violating Civil Rights, vandalism under $400, and possession of tools to commit vandalism or graffiti.

The two are accused of a hate crime for covering up the mural with black paint.

If the defendants are convicted, they face up to a year in county jail.

17. All I could think while watching the video of them was

that it looked like a ridiculous amount of work.

How can this possibly be that upsetting to you? Do you really believe that this is something so heinous that you are willing to put this much effort into removing it? And then not even do a good job of removing it? And all that time, no one comes to your side to help out. No one looks at what you are doing and is inspired to come be a part of it. But still you soldier on, undeterred.


Maybe I'm lazy - but it is hard to think of much that would get me worked up enough to put that much effort into without some support from others.
