It had been going very mainstream since the tea party really (fascist populism) and took off with Brexit and the US election, both in 2016 incidentally. I think that the global pandemic will have 1 very good consequence. I think it will make the global population, which had been eager to embrace leaders like Johnson, Bolsnaro, 45, Farage, recoil in horror and understand the importance once more of having a government involved in the lives of its citizenry and ready to pursue liberal policies for the greater good of society. I think once President-Elect Biden takes the oath in January with a Democratic congress swept in with him and people see how government can really make their lives so much better, that the fascist populist anger will lose it's appeal. Take a look at the US next-door-neighbor, Canada. Prime Minister Trudeau had been deeply unpopular and suffering from socialist and fascist angst starting to take hold even in Canada. However, his strong stewardship of the country through a unprecedented crisis restored him to the height of his popularity and he is probably cruising to a 3rd term now in the wake of Canada handling COVID-19 so well. I'm sure that Brazilians are recoiling in horror at their fascist leader now, as well, and ready to reject the ideology they once so willingly embraced. The virus will probably extinguish the flames of global fascist populism much like World War II did. COVID-19 has really exposed the differences between the 2 competing ideologies (Liberalism/Socialism versus Fascism/Conservatism). May it never rise again. May a New World Order (or restored world order, so to speak) rise from the ashes.
