"SNIP.....
President Trumps relentless attacks on the security of mail voting are driving suspicion among GOP voters toward absentee ballots a dynamic alarming Republican strategists, who say it could undercut their own candidates, including Trump himself, the Washington Post reports.
In several primaries this spring, Democratic voters have embraced mail ballots in far larger numbers than Republicans during a campaign season defined by the coronavirus pandemic. And when they urge their supporters to vote by mail, GOP campaigns around the country are hearing from more and more Republican voters who say they do not trust absentee ballots
In one particularly vivid example, a group of Michigan voters held a public burning of their absentee ballot applications last month.

(7,968 posts)this is why I'm not voting by mail in November. I'll fucking stand in line behind a tidal wave if I have to but i don't want tRump having anything to claim illegitimacy of my vote.

(3,427 posts)He did after the last election, and he won that one!

(7,968 posts)The other reason is that I think he might actually try to disrupt the postal service and thus disrupt the election right at the critical moment.
I'm not going to chance it. I'm voting in person in November come hell or high water!

(22,256 posts)and not the USPS. These are state which have no reputation as vote supressors either and they have lots of practice.

(7,968 posts)Actually, I may do that as my state does. I'm in Michigan.

(54,770 posts)Let trump keep up his crud, and hell get beaten by a landslide. Of course, local Democratic organizations have to push voting by mail, and help those who need it.

(22,256 posts)early voting period through Election Day (about 15 days). Also persons in jail or convicted of a crime but not sentenced. We have to request an annual application to get the ballots.
However, for the past several election cycles, the Texas Democratic Party has been running a campaign to be sure every Democrat that can be identifed as such receives a vote by mail ballot appilication in January which allows enough time to get the application in and receive the first ballot. All vote by mail voters receive every ballot needed for the rest of the year. Our early voting numbers have increased every election cycle. Once you are on the TDP list, your applications come automatically. It's hard to identify members of a party here because we are an open primary state, so we have to use stats on folks who vote in D primaries.
Not everyone uses them but they still get them. Because we work elections, I save our applications in case something happens and we can't work....boy am I glad I did. DH isn't working the run off so I handed him his application and he has received his ballot.

(44,973 posts)As covid situation is not likely to get any better in November (and there is every reason to believe it could get much worse), I intend to vote by mail again in the general election.

(7,684 posts)mail, or drop it off in a (very secure) designated drop box in your town. After a couple of days you can go online and see if they have received it. I love mail-in ballots: very secure and there's a paper trail of the ballot itself.

(22,256 posts)Georgia had them for those who got their ballots in time and decided to use them. Friend sent a picture of the one she used and it was secure as hell

(4,533 posts)I agree that mail in ballots might be thrown away, or stolen. I say no Trump voter should trust mail in ballots. Because I know many who dont use mail in ballots will never make it to a vote in person site. It might rain or snow, it might be too cold, a voter might have to work late until the polls close, a voter might be too lazy to vote in person. Mail in voting increases voting turnout so for Trump leaning web sites my comments always stress that no Trump supporter should trust mail in voting. I admit I feel guilty when some Trump moron likes my comment. But I do it anyway.,

(44,973 posts)They are welcome to not vote by mail. While the rest of us will (in states where it is allowed).

(56,828 posts)They added "Covid-19" as another reason to get an absentee ballot, but you still need to certify that you can't vote on election day in order to get one.
No early voting in Connecticut, either.

(54,770 posts)voting, almost 30 days of extended voting, everything including registration on-line, etc. I guess that is one area we excel, but not many others.

(56,828 posts)My town of 18,000 will have 3 voting locations on election day in presidential years. For state & local elections/referendums and for primaries, there might be just 1 site. Don't see why having 1 site open each Sunday in October would be that big of a deal?
Almost never a line in my town despite good turnout, but the cities and larger suburbs do have some waits on election day.
