Man caught on video making racist comments in Carmel Valley issues apology

CARMEL VALLEY, Calif. — The video showing a man using racist remarks and being kicked out of a Carmel Valley restaurant has gone viral.

According to Twitter user @JohnRizkallah, a group was out celebrating a family member's birthday at Bernardus Lodge when a man sitting at a nearby table starting yelling racist remarks at them.

The man was later identified as Michael Lofthouse.

Bernardus Lodge said the man in the video was not staying there but was only there for dinner. An employee of the restaurant quickly steps in and tells the man he has to leave. The restaurant released the following statement on Monday:

“This is an extremely unfortunate situation, however we are proud of our staff at Lucia in keeping with Bernardus Lodge’s core values; this incident was handled swiftly and the diner was escorted off property without further escalation," said Sean Damery, vice president and general manager of Bernardus Lodge & Spa. "We provide guests with a safe environment for lodging and dining, and extend our sincere apologies to the guests enjoying a birthday celebration on a holiday weekend."

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) — A man who seen in a viral video delivering vulgar and racist comments toward an Asian family celebrating a birthday at a restaurant in Carmel Valley has been identified by multiple publications as a San Francisco tech CEO.

The video originally posted on Instagram shows a man cursing and gesturing with his middle finger at the family at the Bernardus Lodge and Spa’s Lucia restaurant.

Jordan Chan, the woman who posted the video, told KION the incident happened as her family was celebrating her aunt’s birthday on the Fourth of July and that man was insulting and harassing her family with racist language, saying, “F— you Asians,” “Go back to whatever f—— Asian country you’re from” and “You don’t belong here.”

This was clearly a moment where I lost control and made incredibly hurtful and divisive comments. I would like to deeply apologize to the Chan family. 9. Just an FYI - there are 4 Solid8 companies,

at least three of which are being publically trashed. The 4th - the Solid8 company LoftHouse actually works for - apparently does not have a facebook presence.

One of the owners has responded. The response by those misdirecting their anger? Why did you steal that company's name - you should have done more research before you copied his name; you need to make a statement that you aren't connected with him (unless you really are); you need to figure out how to delete the comments we put on your page since we're not going to be bothered to clean up the reputation we trashed. (Some paraphrased, some pretty much direct quotes).

If you're gonna go tell his employer to fire him, make sure you target the right one.
