During the 1918 pandemic there was another viral outbreak, which caused Encephalitis. Encephalitis caused acute inflammation and the immune system over reacted, attacked the organs, sound familiar?
Many people survived and seemed fine. Months, sometimes years later, some people started showing signs of neurological damage. Some developed a type of Parkinson's disease. Some became catatonic, sleeping sickness. They made a movie about this, Awakenings.
It is being reported this virus may be causing long term damage to people who recover. Because Trump has allowed this virus to infect tens of millions of people we could be looking at a decades long healthcare disaster. If just 5%, 10% of people develop long term neurological damage from this virus, we are talking millions of people.
If you have children, I would think long and hard about sending them back to school. We don't know enough about this virus, yet.
Maybe we should name the virus Trumpalitis.

(3,414 posts)It's not just a respiratory virus:

Also, the litany of damage found at autopsy:

You DO NOT WANT to get this virus!

(1,154 posts)This is what I've been talking about. I caught it last January, along with my two house mates. I know I've had kidney and lung damage, and time will tell what else. I'll keep you all informed.

(21,155 posts)Never been sicker. Still never have been myself 100% again. I got it on a Tuesday and was bedridden by a Thursday night. Hubby came down with it Sunday.
And we live in the same city Winetourdriver.

(86,643 posts)these experiences with us, we need to know as much as we can.
Many medical professionals are indicating that the virus attacks the cardio vascular system in that it coagulates the blood and clogs capillaries and veins which is causing the multiple organ failure.
I learned a long time ago that the organs make blood which carries oxygen throughout the body. If that system is interrupted, nothing good can come of it.
Do take care, I hope these conditions are temporary for the sake of us all.

(3,764 posts)Encephalitis is inflammation of the brain. It can be caused by many viruses and also bacteria.

(32,641 posts)However it's true that Covid is causing some brain damage in some of the victims. The long-term effects of Covid are unknown and cannot be predicted at this point. I totally understand your reasoning - nobody should be "trying to get sick" just to get the immunity. That would be really insane.

Lots of people would need additional medical treatment, which would run into the billions with our for profit healthcare system.
We need Healthcare not Wealthcare.
