Found on Facebook. A week of wearing a Black Lives Matter hat in Georgia

This is the personal account of a white man in southern rural Georgia - who decided to take a stand against racism... and wore a BLM hat for a week...

THE MOST RACIST WEEK OF MY LIFE: I work for a beer company I’ve been delivering for 7+ years
I run a route that consist of Pooler, Rincon, Springfield, Guyton, and Port Wenworth. All of these places are in southern rural Georgia. This week I decided to take a stand with my fellow American brothers and sisters against racism.

I have never felt as much hate, fear, anxiety, and disbelief since I started here.
My Black and Indian customers loved it. Many of my white customers showed me nothing but hatred and disgust.

I have been followed all week, I was kicked out of a store for the first time ever, and had customers openly refer to Mein Kampf and death to the Blacks.
My Friday’s are usually my best day but not today.

At my third stop today I had first ever run I with a Klan member. He stood very close to me and my black assistant with hatred in his eyes. I didn’t realize what he was until he walked away wearing a jacket with a huge Blood Drop Cross.

I continued my day 2 stops later a firefighter came and stood at the back of my truck. He followed me to the door with my pallet of beer just standing and talking on his radio. He did this for the next 3 stops. I was concerned and scared but I just keep working.

At my last stop today I was rolling beer into the cooler and a man in full army fatigues, a bucket hat, and sunglasses ran in a stood about 2 feet away with his hand in pocket. Not one white person said anything about my hat all week, but I could feel their hatred. It was sickening and scary how much they hated me for it. I will never know the struggle of being a black man and I could just simply take the hat off.

I felt things this week I haven’t ever felt in my life all because of my hat. These people hate and want to kill anyone who stands against them. This is very serious and I cannot believe what it would be like if I was black. Please my fellow white people Please help from the bottom of my heart

No American should feel these things and die because of them. I love you guys please help make America and the world a better place.

that is some serious hate for someone they don't even know. The racists put it front and center over all else. For this election - expose the Southern Strategy and shame those Republicans who partake of it. No more hiding from it. Politicians should be as brave as this man was.

What a brave, compassionate, wonderful guy.

I'm sad that it didn't go viral, or at least I hadn't seen it till now, nearly a month later. Everything he says is so important. I thought I had learned, in the years since 2015/2016, how overflowing with blind hatred so many fellow Americans were, but I actually had no idea our country was this much of a shitstain until COVID and BLM.

Urban south is Atlanta, NOLA, Houston, cities I love.

Of course, there are rural areas outside the south that are bad. But you have never experienced the Twilight Zone until you stop in a rural southern town.

87 universities endorse 260+ of his stations! with sports broadcasting. all it would take is one famous activist to get the message to the black athletes on those teams and dozens of pro teams that they are being used by KKK radio stations

any activsm aimed at that would scare thousands of advertisers and force the ad industry to democratize talk radio - that would force the GOP senators dependent on and intimidated by rw radio to finally dump trump - as they wouldn't have limbaugh and sons to excuse their licking of trumps royal private parts

man of peace, integrity and insight, now. Please stay safe, head on a swivel and 6. Trump has brought out just how hateful and racist some of the American people can be. We the people can be just Americans accepting all if they are not hurting anyone. Trump and his hateful militias just won't let that happen. He built his fence so his perimeter is set for when he refuses to leave the WH after his resounding defeat in November.

You are a true patriot.

It's not a LOT different in the suburbs where I live, but you won't hear it as much. FWIW, they don't like northerners much better! My friends & relatives from Pa. all tell me they never knew people were still like that all these years later. I have no idea if there will ever be a change to that either. In some cases we all feel that it's the older generation and some day these racist folks will die off, but that's not the case with the rural areas. They're fairly small towns where people are born, live & die & never leave, so those hatreds are passed from generation to generation. The only possible change would come from the burbs expanding more & more and a flood of new people would far outnumber the racists, but I don't see that happening in my lifetime or yours!

I’m guessing not a small man. You ever se the guys hauling in liquid all day from trucks? That makes a huge difference. A strapping White male will be left generally alone. The will think about it but realize he could break their face.

These people are cowards.

20 years I would not have been afraid to do it. But even as a fit 54 year old I would not. I’m passed the age where I was fit and strong enough to worry bullies I could break their face. But they would know they had scraped with me.

Now I’m thinking about getting a BLM hat. Fuck them.
