Trump says 'may cut off funding' if U.S. schools do not open

U.S. JULY 8, 2020 / 9:33 AM / UPDATED AN HOUR AGO

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday threatened to cut off funding to schools that do not open in the fall and criticized a federal health agency’s guidelines for reopening schools as “very tough & expensive.”

The Republican president, who is seeking re-election in November, accused Democrats of wanting to keep schools shut for political reasons, despite a surge in coronavirus cases across the country.

“The Dems think it would be bad for them politically if U.S. schools open before the November Election, but is important for the children & families. May cut off funding if not open!” Trump said on Twitter, pointing to schools reopening in some European countries with no problems.

It was not clear what specific federal aid the Republican president had in mind. States are responsible for primary and secondary education under the U.S. Constitution, but the federal government provides some supplementary funding.

this threat to school funding is very minor, compared to the lives of our kids.

In other words, f**k off trump.

Saw a piece on local Chicago news about 2 hours ago.
Majority of districts in Illinois get 5% or less.
Of that majority, 50% of the population of those districts get 2% or less.
Just a guess, but I'm betting there are red states that get much more.

And I'm really close to graduating too. I value being alive over supporting Trump's bullshit. My school has moved online but if they're forced to do this, I may reconsider taking classes this semester.

attention to this POS anyways? His word is worth even less than the toilet paper I use in the bathroom, especially when viewed from the perspective that's he's cheated on his SATs, probably his taxes too, and cheated on supposed bone spurs to keep from serving.

It seems to be a recurring theme w/ this POS, isn't it?

are all dual citizens with Canada. Her family lives in Vancouver and her sister is a longtime teacher in the VAN school district. This along with everything else is just another reaffirmation that our decision to enroll our kids in school there is the right thing to do. They're doing either 2-day weeks here or all virtual - families' choice - but it's clear that this asshole will do whatever he can to force our hands.

Thankfully, this moron can't actually do this, and in Cali they'll tell him to go pound sand, but we should't be surprised that this evil extends to kids. After all, he's already put countless in cages on the border.
